State-of-the-art Korean-style health screening center opens in Cerritos

Seoul National University Hospital, Seoul National University Bundang Hospital, and the U.S.-based SL Christian Foundation have decided to establish a “Korean-style health screening center” in Los Angeles and have begun full-scale preparations.

The SL Foundation, a nonprofit organization established by Logos Mission—which operates the Chicago-based CMM Christian Medical Mutual Aid Society—signed an “Advisory Agreement for the Establishment of an LA Health Screening Center” with Seoul National University Hospital and Bundang Seoul National University Hospital on April 24. The signing of this contract is a follow-up to the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed last July, in which both parties agreed to build and operate a health screening center in Los Angeles.

The advisory agreement signing ceremony, held in the main conference room on the third floor of Seoul National University Bundang Hospital, was attended by approximately 20 representatives from both sides, including hospital executives such as Kim Young-tae, President of Seoul National University Hospital, and Song Jeong-han, President of Seoul National University Bundang Hospital, as well as Park Do-won, Chairman of the SL Foundation; Park In-deok, Vice Chairman of Logos Mission; Jeong Sang-gyo, CEO; Dr. Jo Jung-haeng; and Attorney Dana Lee.

In his opening remarks, Hospital Director Kim Young-tae stated, “We will do our utmost to ensure that a Korean-style health screening center successfully enters the U.S., the global hub of the healthcare industry.” Song Jeong-han, Director of Seoul National University Bundang Hospital, then pledged, “We will make a significant contribution so that Korean Americans in the U.S. can prevent and treat diseases in a timely manner through this excellent Korean-style health screening center and enjoy healthy lives.”

Park Do-won, Chairman of the SL Foundation, said, “The greatest significance lies in the fact that we are partnering with Seoul National University Hospital, a leading institution in Korea, to establish the first Korean-style health screening center in the United States,” adding, “It will also be a great benefit for members of the Christian Medical Mutual Aid Association and the Korean-American community to be able to receive treatment at Seoul National University Hospital, which is renowned for its outstanding medical expertise.”

Meanwhile, the SL Foundation recently completed the corporate registration of “SL Preventive Medical Center, LLC’ to directly operate a health screening center under its umbrella. On November 6 of last year, the foundation purchased a large nine-story building (with a total floor area of 195,000 square feet) in Cerritos to establish a Korean-style health screening center and began preparations for remodeling the first and second floors (a total of 40,000 square feet) to serve as the screening center.

Under the terms of the consulting agreement, Seoul National University Bundang Hospital will form a team of expert consultants to provide comprehensive advice and support—including personnel, equipment, systems, and training—necessary for the establishment and operation of the health screening center.

In addition, the consulting agreement and MOU include provisions for establishing a medical cooperation system that allows patients to schedule appointments directly through the LA Health Screening Center for follow-up examinations or treatment at Seoul National University Hospital’s main campus or Seoul National University Bundang Hospital, should they wish to do so after undergoing a screening at the LA Health Screening Center.
