Medical expenses can be shared up to $150,000 per illness, with some conditions and limitations.

  • During the first 3-month Waiting Period after joining, hospitalization and surgery costs due to illness or accidents are shared up to a maximum of $15,000, even after the Waiting Period ends.
  • After the Waiting Period, new illnesses and accidents (excluding car accidents) are eligible for medical expense sharing up to $150,000.
  • Medical conditions occurred before joining may receive limited sharing, depending on the type of illness and length of membership.
  • In the case of a car accident, members must first use their own auto insurance’s Medical Expense Coverage. After insurance is fully applied, remaining medical expenses may be eligible for sharing up to $50,000 per person or $100,000 if two or more units in a family, according to member's level.
CMM is not a substitute for auto insurance, and medical sharing does not apply to non-members involved in car accidents.

CMM is a health care sharing ministry, made possible through the voluntary participation of Christians.
While it may appear similar to insurance in the sense that a large group shares the risks that individuals may face, the key legal distinction between insurance and non-insurance lies in the presence of a contract. CMM does not operate based on a contract, nor does it use a medical provider network. Instead, it functions through voluntary sharing and cooperation among members, grounded in Christian faith and values.

Because of this, CMM avoids using terminology associated with traditional health insurance. Instead, it uses terms like "sharing ministry" to emphasize the difference and help educate the public.

Only Christians who abstain from alcohol, tobacco, and drugs are eligible to join. Such religious and moral standards could not be used as membership criteria for traditional insurance.

Since CMM is not insurance, monthly contributions remained unchanged from 2002 through October 2023.

Members residing in Missouri (MO) and Indiana (IN) may be eligible to deduct their monthly contributions from taxes.
In other states, the contributions to an HCSM are not tax-deductible.
However, donations or offerings made beyond the regular monthly contributions may be tax-deductible.
For detailed information regarding taxes, please consult with a certified accountant or tax professional.

At CMM’s Needs Processing Department, we help members with using medical facilities and submitting and processing medical expense sharing requests. Please follow these steps when visiting a medical institution:

  1. When visiting a medical facility:
Register as Self-Pay or Uninsured Patient and request a medical bill discount. If hospitalization or surgery is required, check whether there are state assistance programs or hospital financial aid programs available. Getting a discount on medical bills is similar to asking for a discount when buying a car. By receiving discounts, it helps keep the overall membership contributions from increasing.
  2. Treatment and surgery procedures:
If treatment, surgery, hospitalization, or special tests are needed due to symptoms or illness, contact the Needs Processing Department 4-5 days before the procedure. In emergency cases, please contact us within 48 hours after treatment. We also offer prayer support for patients.
  3. Medical expense sharing request process:
Complete the 4-page Needs Processing Forms and submit them along with the medical bills, receipts, and medical records received from the medical institution. For prescription medications, submit the receipts including the pharmacy name, patient name, medication name, and price information.

Personal Responsibility refers to the amount a member is responsible for paying (pays directly) from the medical expenses that are eligible for sharing, according to the Guidelines.
The amount of Personal Responsibility varies depending on the membership level chosen by the member.
If the member receives a discount on medical expenses, a deduction benefit is applied within the Personal Responsibility limit.
