On Thursday, the 26th of last month, Pastor Matthew Lee, Director General of Christian Mutual Med Aid(Logos Mission; pictured), along with Kang Dong-hoon, Deputy Director of Public Relations, and Grace Jung, Director of the Southern Branch, visited the Korea World headquarters. They explained the details of the medical benefits provided to Christians in the U.S. for nearly 30 years and discussed ways for Korea World to collaborate in building a “world free from worries about medical expenses.”
At the event, the “Christian Medical Mutual Aid Society (CMM)”—which has not raised its monthly dues for 20 years despite high inflation and high interest rates—also conveyed a message expressing its hope for strong interest and support from many Korean Christians. In particular, Matthew Lee, Director of the Logos Mission Headquarters, stated, “Although prices have risen by 64% and medical costs by 250% compared to 20 years ago, we have strived to keep monthly dues at a minimum of $40,” adding, “I encourage Korean Americans who are worried about high medical costs to take a closer look at our organization.”

Cover up to $150,000 in medical expenses with a minimum monthly contribution of $40 per person
The Christian Medical Mutual Aid Society is the Korean-American community’s first medical expense-sharing ministry, founded in 1996 by Rev. Park Do-won, director of Logos Mission. Approximately 20,000 Korean-American Christian members are actively participating in this medical expense-sharing program. Director Lee explained, “When joining the Christian Medical Mutual Aid Association, medical expenses for illnesses occurring in the first year are covered up to $150,000. If medical expenses exceed $150,000 due to an illness occurring one year after enrollment, an additional $100,000 is added for each year of membership, allowing for medical expense sharing up to $1 million.” He added, He explained, “Support for hospitalization and surgical expenses of up to $15,000 is also available for sudden accidents or illnesses that occur during the three-month waiting period.”
In addition, the director explained, “The Christian Medical Mutual Aid Society is a nonprofit ‘Health Care Sharing Ministry’ that shares medical expenses, but it is not a health insurance company,” adding, “Anyone with a U.S. residential address can enroll regardless of immigration status, and Christians under the age of 65 who do not smoke and do not abuse alcohol or drugs can become members at any time of the year.” “Although members must go through the process of directly requesting medical cost sharing from the Christian Medical Mutual Aid Association after receiving hospital care as an uninsured patient or paying out of pocket, they can not only receive prompt medical care but also have medical expenses incurred during visits to Korea or overseas mission fields shared,” he added.
Kang Dong-hoon, Deputy Director of Public Relations at the Christian Medical Mutual Aid Association, said, “In accordance with the revised guidelines for 2022, we are expanding the scope of coverage to allow for the sharing of medical expenses even for pre-existing conditions.” Deputy Director Kang noted, however, that cancer and heart disease are excluded, adding, “The Christian Medical Mutual Aid Association is a unique concept that allows us to carry out our ministry and business operations while upholding Christian values.” He continued, “If you are worried about an uncertain future or medical expenses, I strongly recommend joining the Christian Medical Mutual Aid Association to prepare for such situations.”
